This map provides context for where TRI facilities are located based on demographic information. The three metrics included here are:

  • Percent Low Income: The percent of a block group's population in households with income less than or equal to twice the federal "poverty level."
  • Percent Minority: The percent of individuals in a block group who list their racial status as a race other than white alone and/or list their ethnicity as Hispanic or Latino.
  • Demographic Index: A calculated index based on the average of Percent Low-Income and Percent Minority.

You can select which demographic metric to view with the toggle buttons below. Census block groups will not show on the map if too many block groups are included in your current selection.

Demographic information is downloaded from EPA's EJSCREEN: Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool. EJSCREEN provides demographic information at the U.S. Census block group level.
